Lesser Goldfinch(Carduelis psaltria)
Small finches found, usually in flocks, in weedy areas, patches of thistle and dandelions in lawns where they feed on seeds. Adult males have a black crown, greenish back, yellow underparts, black wings and tail. The wings have white patches. Females are dull greenish yellow with dark rump and wings.
The Lesser Goldfinch in the first photo, taken 5/27/01, learned how to eat seeds and fly and was released. The next day an even younger Lesser Goldfinch arrived. It was also released. The second photo was taken 6/27/01 a few days before release of the second Lesser Goldfinch.
