Lives in various open habitats including woodland edges, deserts, gardens and cities. It sings incessantly throughout the year but especially in the spring. It can often be heard singing in the night. Its songs mimic other birds as well as other sounds it hears including the ringing of telephones and the various sounds of car alarms.
