Western Screech-Owl (Otus kennicottii)
A common owl of oak and riparian woodlands, this juvenile fell out of its nest and landed in a pickup truck bed at a local park. The ranger found it impossible to replace the owlette in its nest, so the owl resided at the NPWRC until it was old enough to hunt for its own food. Photo 7/1/00.
The last moments of captivity! The rehabilitated Western Screech-Owl was released near the tree from which it originally fell. The release was 7/24/00 at about 3:15 p.m.
